「Stilllive 2023：消えゆく媒介者」は、2023年7月〜8月に開催した「Stilllive 2023: Stilllive Studies」の延長線上にあります。「Stilllive Studies」では、パフォーマンスを媒介とする学びの場をコンセプトに、身体、都市、政治、ジェンダー、コミュニティなどを思考するワークショップ、勉強会、読書会、国外のプラットフォームとの交流会、パフォーマンスショーイングを行いました。参加メンバーは、自らの経験や実践形態を独自の手法で共有することで、集団での学び合いを実験することができました。そこでは、アーティストが参加者に一方的に教えるのではなく、パフォーマンス以前の状態や、それに至るまでの過程そのものを媒介に物事を考える時間が設けられました。

　今回の試みは、このような経験を踏まえ、パフォーマンスの一回性と媒介性に着目し、アーティスト同士の共同制作による表象を通し、その可能性を探るものです。身振り、仕草、行動といった一回的な身体行為によって現れるパフォーマンスは、その場では一瞬で消えてしまうが、それを共有した人々の身体や認知に残っていきます。それは、伝達者／受容者という一方的な関係によって注入されたのではなく、パフォーマンスそのもの、またはそれを行うアーティストが「消えゆく媒介者」となることで、そこに意味が生起するものと言えます。

　タイトルにもある「消えゆく媒介者(Vanishing Mediator)」という用語は、「ある行為者がある状態から別の状態への大きな変動や変化の条件をつくり出し、このプロセスが安定するようになると、それが目に見える場面からは消え去っていく運動」を意味します。私たちは、この概念に含まれる動的なダイナミズムや運動性に着目し、アーティストが繰り広げる刹那的な行為としてパフォーマンスと、その場に居合わせる観客との照応関係を探ろうとします。

This performance is an extension of Stilllive 2023: Stilllive Studies, which was held from July to August 2023. Stilllive Studies was a series of workshops, study groups, book readings, exchanges with international platforms, and performance showings that explored the body, the city, politics, gender, and community under the concept of a performance-mediated learning space. The participating members were able to experiment with collective learning by sharing their own experiences and forms of practice uniquely. The artists did not teach the participants one-sidedly but rather provided a time to consider things through the medium of the pre-performance state and the process leading up to the performance itself.

Based on this experience, the current attempt focuses on the one-time nature and mediational nature of performance and explores its possibilities in the form of a collaborative performance by artists. A performance that appears through one-time physical acts such as gestures, movements, and actions disappears in an instant on the spot but remains in the bodies and perceptions of those who share it. It is not infused by a one-way relationship of transmitter/recipient, but the performance itself or the artist who performs it becomes a "vanishing mediator," and meaning emerges from it.

The philosophical term "Vanishing Mediator", which is also the title of this issue, refers to "a movement in which an actor creates the conditions for a major fluctuation or change from one state to another, and when this process becomes stable, it fades from the visible scene. Focusing on the dynamism and kineticism contained in this concept, we seek to explore the correspondence between the performance as a momentary act by the artist and the audience present at the performance.
